FAQ's

How do I report content on Bluesky?

To report content on Bluesky, navigate to the post or profile you want to report, click the three-dot menu, and select "Report"; then choose the appropriate reason for reporting from the given options and submit your report. Make sure you've selected "BeeHive Moderation Service" under where you'd like to send the report; otherwise, we may not be able to see it.

What happens if I block the Moderation Service account?

Bluesky enforces blocks even at the moderative level; however, it's only for vision, not for decision. If a user reports content to us and we're unable to correctly assess it due to a users blocking choices, Bluesky handle issues, or other visibility problems, we'll apply a generalized blanket warning to the account regardless of finding. These labels too can be appealed, but the user will need to unblock us first. We may also investigate reports via alternative accounts not associated with the company's domain, however, users may still choose to have their profiles restricted which impacts the efficacy of that.

I've had a label applied to my account, what can I do about it?

Labels applied at an account-level can have an appeal submitted within the Bluesky app natively. We review all appeals in a timely basis, including appeal context and the message provided.

I've had a label applied to my content, and I don't understand why.

We try to assess reports in a timely manner to minimize harm potential while also attempting to strike a balance of accuracy.

We label content ritualistically; not just when something bad has been done. Labels from our labeler provide context, they are not set-in-stone warnings or advisements. If you believe that our context is ill-advised, you can submit an appeal from within the Bluesky app, and we'll take a look at it as quickly as possible, typically within 24 hours.

We may occasionally reach out to users from domain-attached accounts seeking clarification on content, or submitted reports. Make sure your messages are open, or you follow us, to make sure we can reach out to you. If we're not able to, we may not be able to action your report in the manner you desire.

How can I provide more context with my report?

The Bluesky app and website both give you a description box within the reporting flow that lets you freely enter text. You can use this to better describe the type of abuse or bad behavior that you're seeing, to give us better context on what you'd like us to judge.

What is "politically charged content"?

This is a label we apply to content or accounts that are/frequently generate politically charged messaging.

Some aspects of politics are simply data-based or informational, and shouldn't be hidden due to their political nature because they educate the user when seen.

Other forms of political content, like content we label "politically charged", is content we assess is likely to transition to politically abusive speech if engaged with.
